BLOGGING BRAINSTORM
August 4, 2007
It is my utmost belief that good blogging is all about the personality. The truth is I hate to blog, and I’m no good at it. I blame my personality. I’m somewhat of a flake, I change my opinions as often as my shoes…. in other words pretty darn often. At this point in my life I don’t feel comfortable sharing ideas as quickly as I can produce them. What if I write pink is my favorite color one day – then I read a long article about how Paris Hilton loves pink and this changes my mind. Then I decide I like green? What then of my previous blog about my love of pink? Does my stock as a blogger go down because I have changed my mind. Does blogging reveal to the world that I am a complete flake?
Some of my friends blog for fun. One in particular comes to mind. She is amazingly good at blogging. She is personal yet witty and completely fearless in her banter. She posts pictures (another fear of mine), poems, and even has fans. I’m not yet comfortable with the idea of using a blog, so how then can I suggest it to the DRT? This leads me to believe certain personality types are better at the blogging. Moving away from personal blogs and in the direction of more serious work or topic blogs I think some of this transcends. A big part of blogs is how the bloggers personality adds depth to the information provided.
My idea for DRT is that they integrate their Today in History into a DRT’s staffs blog. For example, today in history is President Lincohn’s Birthday. By using the blog as the platform one could easily integrate other applications such as Flikr pictures, links to speeches, or documents and useful related links. (hmm. Sounds like a webguide!) I don’t know that a personal blog would work if it was forced onto someone as yet another thing to do before they get to go home. The success of the blog would depend on the willingness of the participant, not just anyone can blog. Though a day in the life of DRT would be pretty cool. The blog could be passed from one staff member to the next or perhaps go beyond the department but be handled by the DRT? Or I could integrate the blogging into another application, such as facebook.
